Head of Business Unit Custom Digitalization
The Ambit Group has a clear focus on the area of Custom Digitalization management and the digital transformation of business processes outside of classic standard applications such as CRM/ERP systems. A dedicated business unit supports organizations such as associations, membership organizations, political parties and foundations in their digitalization projects. Rico Fetz heads up the 12-strong team and met up with us for an interview.

Hello Rico, we are delighted that you are here to talk about you and the Custom Digitalization business unit. Our customers and prospective customers naturally want to know first:
Hello, my name is Rico Fetz. I come from Graubünden and am married. After graduating from high school, I studied economics in Bern. With my degree in my pocket, I immediately started my career at a Big 4 consultancy. I spent several years there, where I was able to build up my knowledge of various sectors and advise well-known international companies, always in an international environment.
I can answer that clearly: I'm at the Ambit Group, thanks to Michael Lehmann. We worked together in consulting at the time. He had already switched to the Ambit Group and was convinced. When he introduced me to the Ambit Group, I knew I could trust his judgment. And rightly so, I have to say.
In the project business, we work in a people business, people are always the focus and trust is a decisive factor. Trust in my counterpart also influenced my decision to come to Ambit.
Yes, of course you can have hobbies. In my free time, I enjoy reading, playing floorball and meeting up with friends for a meal, a glass of wine and discussions about God and the world. I am very interested in history and literature. I have a curious nature and am always discovering exciting topics far removed from the business world. Regularly thinking outside the box of my own field of work: For me, this is both balancing and enriching.
That's exactly why I'm in the Custom Digitalization business unit. No two days are the same here. And yes, there are days when things don't go smoothly. But the days when I discover exciting new topics and can help companies digitize their member organizations outweigh the others.
Rico lives in Chur with his wife, and in addition to visiting customers, he is also on the road at the CRM office in Winterthur, where he loves to learn more and discuss topics outside of business.
Water or wine?
Wine. It just tastes better 😉.
Literature or history?
Both, history tries to come as close as possible to the way things actually were. Literature doesn't have this limitation. In literature, everything is allowed, everything can be.
Cappy / hoodie or suit?
Cappy and hoodie. That's more comfortable for me personally. The combination is now also really stylish.
I like suits too, it's not like that. But to be honest, I'm more of a hoodie wearer.
Recommendation from our news blog?
I would like to read a book every day if possible and be amazed by something once a day. At work, I prefer to develop digitalization solutions with our customers and the project teams. The variety that the project business offers simply suits my nature. In general, Custom Digitalization projects are characterized by a high degree of individualization of processes. This means that everyone in the team, including me, gets to know many different business models and processes. This variety makes life exciting for me.
I've been playing floorball for 25 years. Scoring goals is a rarity for me. Of course, I sometimes score goals. I still remember a very nice goal in 2006. That was the moment when time stood still for me.
In my professional life, I am committed to building trusting customer relationships. I attach great importance to the different relations within Custom Digitalization. My greatest success is to regularly create trusting, authentic customer relationships in projects.
Being down-to-earth is very important to me, because we are committed to treating our customers and employees as equals. I am convinced that this is the only way to create a trusting working relationship and the basis for a long-term partnership. (Laughs) But I have to mention another value: Passion. If someone feels a fire for something, then it's mega cool. It doesn't matter what they feel passionate about. From my point of view, passion is incredibly contagious in this respect. In a project environment, you can be passionate about a sub-process. This allows you to identify with a company, a brand and also the project.
That's a difficult question. From my point of view, the customer's decision is a long process. But there are special moments, often in workshops or presentations, when I sense that the customer has confidence in us. That is the moment when it “clicks” and we have found the basis for a long-term partnership. In transformation and digitalization projects of this kind, it has to be right on a human level. This is much more crucial to the success of the project than a technical challenge.
From a purely rational point of view, our customers trust our approach, our experience and our expertise, which we can also prove with corresponding references. In the area of Custom Digitalization , we advise and digitize processes for which there is no standard software. This makes it all the more important to have confidence in the various skills of the Ambit team and in Ambit as a reliable partner. The approach, which we have worked on intensively in recent years and continue to develop further, is another important success factor. Added to this is a network of partners in various disciplines that enables holistic transformation at the level of people, organization, processes and technology.
I think you could ask ChatGPT and we would get a similar answer. (laughs) A key requirement of our Custom Digitalization customers is a high degree of flexibility to meet their individual needs and processes. In my experience, the scalability of the solution is a key-added value. To give you an example: For example, the platform enables future membership growth with the same amount of work.
Speed is also a clear added value of the platform: we are able to quickly implement individual topics in long-term projects with Power Platform, Low Code, No code. We work with the entire range of the Microsoft platform, which no longer stops at back-end applications. Today, we implement projects with sophisticated web applications (portals, apps) and, in future, increasingly AI-supported bots.
And if it gets bigger, we can call on additional services from our competent ecosystem, such as Avictis or Novalytica.
We provide you with the latest knowledge on technological innovations and developments in digital transformation and on successful reference customers and go-lives.
