Microsoft Dynamics 365 - Information on "New Commerce" licensing
Microsoft launches a new condition and price structure in 2022 with the "New Commerce" rental licence model.
With the adapted condition model, the currently different rental licence agreements are to be standardised.
The so-called seat-based licences are affected: Rental licences that are licensed for a single user, such as for Office 365, Microsoft 365, PowerBI, Power Apps, Power Automate and Dynamics 365.
The most important in brief
- Microsoft is adjusting its conditions and pricing model from 1 March 2022 - the rental licensing model itself remains unchanged (D365)
- In future, you as a customer will be able to choose between price stability for 1 month, 12 months or 36 months
- The monthly payment method remains unchanged
- There will be a price increase of up to 25 percent for licences in the area of Microsoft 365

What specifically is changing?
Binding terms and price stability
In future, you can choose contract terms with a rental licence of 1 month, 12 months or 36 months. The prices for the booked rental licences remain unchanged over the selected contract term and give you planning security. According to Microsoft, this is a frequently expressed wish on the part of customers.
Additional users can be licensed at any time. A reduction is only possible after the contract period has expired. As a customer, you also have the option of mixing different contract terms in order to model long-term price stability and flexibility in terms of number.
The monthly licence model offers the highest flexibility. These prices are 20% more expensive, as is usual for such licences.
Cancellation of a rental licence or a reduction in quantities must be notified in writing 1 month before the renewal date. Otherwise, the contract term is automatically renewed for at least 12 months.
Adjustments and cancellations (quantities)
The rental licences (such as Dynamics 365) could previously be adjusted in terms of quantity (+/-) or cancelled at any time and were invoiced on a daily basis.
Cancellation of a rental licence or reduction of quantities will only be possible from next year with written notice of termination or adjustment 1 month before renewal.
The number of logged-in users is valid for the selected contract period (1 / 12 / 36 months). The customer is then obliged to pay for the licences for the selected period.
An increase in the quantities for a rental licence is still possible at any time.
New prices for Microsoft 365
From March 2022, Microsoft will increase the prices for rental licences for Microsoft 365 (incl. O365) by up to 25 percent. These price adjustments were officially announced by Microsoft in August 2021.
